03/03/2009

Longtime carwash operator Glen LaVerne “Vern” Morain died Feb. 27 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident, according to an obituary posted online by Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone, Iowa. The accident occurred on New Year’s Day near Las Vegas. He was 69.

Morain was born in Ogden, Utah, on May 19, 1939, and spent much of his early life in Utah. In 1966, he formed Vern’s Corp. with the help of a high school friend and built a carwash in Ogden. He built West Boone Car Wash in 1978 and operated Vern Morain's Touchless Carwash in downtown Boone from 1990 to 2003.

During his life, Morain also spent 17 years driving for North American Van Lines, ventured into mobile home park development and operated a vending business. He concentrated on his vending and carwash businesses full time beginning in 1989. Morain sold the businesses in 2004 and moved to Henderson, Nev.

He is survived by his wife Abbey; two sons, Richard and Robert; daughter Sharil and five grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for March 5. Online condolences and a guestbook are available on Schroeder Memorial Chapel's Web site.
