Carwash, C-Store and Gas Station Approved
03/05/2003
TOWSON, Md. - The plan to build a combination gas station, convenience store and carwash have received approval from Baltimore County zoning officials. Zoning Commissioner Lawrence Schmidt granted developer William Poole a special exception he needed for the project. Poole is the president of Pascal-Turner Homes, which manages a mobile home park adjacent to the approved 1.25-acre site. Schmidt included conditions to address issues raised by neighbors, including issues related to traffic, spillover light and water runoff, Jeffersonian.com reported. A neighborhood group says it has no plans to appeal the decision, because one of the conditions is the requirement of a third lane running in front of the property to ease traffic congestion entering and leaving the site. The owner of a nearby drive-in theater had earlier expressed concerns about increased lighting and water runoff, Jeffersonian.com reported. To prevent the problem, Schmidt ruled that developers must submit a landscape and lighting plan to the counting planning office and county landscape architect for review. Plans include an Amoco gas station with a dozen pumps, a convenience store and a carwash. To prevent runoff problems, Schmidt ruled that developers must meet stormwater requirements set by the county's Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management, which has already granted the project a waiver, Jeffersonian.com said.
