Carwash Sale Would Include Duck Pond

12/16/2009

A carwash currently for sale in Eagle River, Alaska, includes a man-made duck pond that is a popular local attraction. Larry Thomas, who purchased the Eagle River Car Wash in 1969, built the pond when he expanded the facility. Locals are fond of the pond, often stopping by to watch and feed the birds that inhabit it, but current owners Brad and Tanya Gamble are unsure a new owner will want to keep up with the extra bird maintenance, according to a report by the Alaska Star.

Although the pond’s bird population once included several donated and abandoned peacocks, geese, chickens and roosters taken in by Thomas, the number and variety of birds has shrunk over the years. The pond today is home mostly to wild ducks and some water fowl, although the Gambles have continued to feed and care for the domestic geese, the article said.

Most of the pond apparently sits on state land, although the carwash draws from the water supply. The Gambles have owned the carwash and duck pond since 2004.
