Eco Express Car Wash Taps Wind Power

07/23/2009

Eco Express Car Wash in Oklahoma City, Okla., has erected a wind turbine to provide clean energy and assist with power consumption. The Windspire turbine is 30 feet tall, propeller free, and uses a vertical axis designed to harness wind power in urban, suburban and rural locations, according to a press release.

The turbine is in the 1 kilowatt range and costs approximately $9,000 to $12,000 after installation. It also is eligible for a 30 percent federal small wind tax credit, the release said.

In addition to wind power, Eco Express Car Wash uses environmentally friendly chemicals and reclaimed water. Owners Garland Bell and Brad Peak also plan to install solar panels at the facility.

The owners believe the turbine’s height and spinning vertical design will help attract customers to the new wash.

“We think the unique design of the Windspire spinning out front is going to make people notice our new carwash,” Bell said. “It’s going to generate electricity and business for us.”

“Eco Express Wash is a great example of a green business, “said Mike Hess, CEO of Windspire’s parent company, Mariah Power. “We look forward to a great relationship with Garland and Brad as they bring Eco Express Car Washes and Windspires to other parts of Oklahoma.”
