Van Brook of Lexington Founder Dies

10/31/2008

Virgil Vance, founder of token manufacturer Van Brook of Lexington, died Oct. 29 in Lexington, Ky. He was 74.

Vance had more than 45 years of experience in the token industry, founding Van Brook of Lexington in 1962. He created CT High Security Bi-metallic Control Tokens in 1991, followed by the addition of CTX Electronic Security Tokens in 1993. Van Brook’s tokens have been used throughout the vending, carwash and other industries.

Vance was proud of his customers and enjoyed his affiliations and friendships in the fields in which tokens are used, the company said. He reportedly liked learning and said, “We learn new things every day from our customers and how they are using tokens for promotions and specialized applications.”

In 2006, Van Brook of Lexington became an operating division of Osborne Coinage Co. of Cincinnati.

Vance is survived by his son, Randolph.
