DEERFIELD TWP., Ohio -- Procter & Gamble is branching out into the service sector by launching a chain of high-end carwashes, and Deerfield Township trustees Tuesday night approved the company's plans for the 8,900-square-foot carwash and gift shop on 2.6 acres in the Arbor Square shopping center.

The carwashes will be “different from every other carwash” in Greater Cincinnati, said Mike Foster, P&G product supply director. Calling it a landmark project, the company plans to build its first Mr. Clean Performance Car Wash in Deerfield Township at the busy intersection of Mason Montgomery and Socialville Fosters roads.

The $3.3 million project will “be the equivalent to what Starbucks has done for coffee and Panera has done for sandwiches,” said Foster.

The state-of-the-art carwash is scheduled to be open by spring and will feature a living-room-like waiting lounge equipped with flat-screen TVs and wireless internet access.

It will also include a gift shop selling flowers, cards, snacks and gift items, a café for refreshments and coffee, and a “theater-style” viewing area where patrons can watch their cars being washed and children can shoot soapy foam at the vehicles from mega water guns.
