Although rainy weather dampened the effectiveness of Champ Car Wash’s drive to raise money for a paralyzed military veteran, the carwash said it will donate $10,000 of its own money, according to a report by WCAX-TV. Champ Car Wash had hoped to wash 1,000 cars April 23 at each of its two Vermont washes and donate 100 percent of its proceeds and tips.

The money will be given to the family of Andrew Parker, who was paralyzed from the waist down by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. The local community has been raising money to help the family make Parker’s home wheelchair accessible. Parker, who received a Purple Heart for his injuries, cannot move into his home permanently until it is renovated to accommodate his wheelchair.
