After five months of preparation, 13 Carnett’s Car Wash locations will officially become Mr. Clean Car Wash and Oil Change facilities July 1. All of the sites are in the Atlanta metro area. Grand opening events will be held at each location between July 8 and July 12. The announcement was made by Agile Pursuits Franchising Inc., a subsidiary of Procter & Gamble established to oversee the company’s franchising efforts.

The grand opening festivities will include a visit from “the real Mr. Clean,” and guests will be eligible to register throughout July for a chance to win a 2009 Ford Fusion.

Mr. Clean Car Wash locations will offer a broad range of carwash and oil-change services, including the Mr. Clean Signature Shine package, which offers interior and exterior cleaning using proprietary Mr. Clean products. Facilities also will offer express detail services, such as carpet shampooing or orbital-applied wax, designed to be completed in about 30 minutes.

Customer amenities include a variety of refreshments, flat-screen televisions and free Wi-Fi. Each location will recycle and filter its wash water, the company announced.

P&G purchased the Carnett’s chain in February. The name conversion will bring the number of Mr. Clean Car Wash locations to 15, including two corporate-owned stores in Cincinnati. Five additional facilities are currently under development, the company reported. Three new franchise agreements were recently signed in Atlanta, as well as one in Charlotte, N.C., and one in Columbus, Ohio.

Company officials said Mr. Clean Car Wash is targeting additional markets nationwide and has begun to purchase sites in select cities intended for future franchise locations. A report last week by the Atlanta Business Chronicle said the company is focusing initially on markets in Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas. The article also said P&G’s preference was to build new facilities in densely populated areas, although the company is willing to discuss possible acquisitions.

Mr. Clean continues to accept franchise applications. A Mr. Clean Car Wash franchise investment would require $3 million to $4 million per location for property, construction and operating capital, in addition to a $35,000 franchise fee and monthly royalty fees equal to 6 percent of net revenue, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported.
