An exotic car owner in Clearwater Beach, Fla., is so hesitant to have his Lamborghini or BMW M-6 cleaned by a professional carwash or auto detailer that he is willing to violate local water restrictions to wash his car at home, according to a report by MyFox Tampa Bay.
Paul Vitale reportedly tried to get a waiver from the Southwest Florida Water Management District but was denied because he did not prove “undue hardship” or offer a viable water-saving alternative.
“Basically it came down to they left me no choice and I did it anyway,” Vitale told the news station.
Vitale said he uses filters, special soaps and towels to hand wash his vehicles, which are worth about $450,000. He is reluctant to use even a self-service carwash because he believes the high-pressure nozzles could damage the car finishes and exterior electronic sensors.
The water management district will decide later this month if current restrictions will be extended past June 30.
