A charity carwash hosted by Quick & Easy Car Wash and Oil Change in Madison Heights, Mich., raised nearly $10,000 for the family of a local police officer who died June 12, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press. Officer Ryan Settlemoir's death was believed to be the third in Michigan related to the H1N1 virus, commonly called the swine flu, but his family said Settlemoir also had tested positive for Legionnaires' disease.
Preliminary testing at the Madison Heights Police Department indicated the presence of Legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’, in several areas, including showers and faucets.
Several officers participated in the fundraiser, which sold T-shirts for $10 in addition to providing carwashes.
