The Auto Spa has been recognized by the Mercer Island, Wash., Chamber of Commerce as its 2009 Business of the Year. The chamber recognized the carwash, in part, because of the environmental benefits it brings to the community, including keeping about three tons of sediment, oil and grease out of Lake Washington every year, according to a report by the Mercer Island Reporter.
The Auto Spa also was honored for its customer service record and community relations efforts. The carwash gives every new school district employee a free carwash when they join the staff, and the company has donated carwash and detailing services to schools and other nonprofit organizations, the article said. The carwash hosts about one fundraiser each month.
The carwash opened in 1995 and is owned by Suzanne Skone, who will serve as chamber president next year.
