Employees at Superior Car Wash in St. Catharines, Ontario, surprised co-worker Reynald Joseph recently by giving him more than $2,000 to send to his family in Haiti. Co-workers contributed tips and salary hours toward a fund to help Joseph’s immediate family rebuild their house in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince after it was destroyed by last week’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake, according to a report by The Standard.

Joseph did not hear from his family for nearly three days before a relative called to tell him his parents, sisters and brothers were OK. However, an uncle and three cousins are feared dead, the article said.

Carwash owner Jon Pintwala, as well as several customers, also donated money to help Joseph’s family.
