The Southwest Car Wash Association kicked off the carwash industry’s trade show season by drawing more than 1,200 carwash owners and exhibitors to its 2010 Convention & Car Wash EXPO Feb. 21-23 in Arlington, Texas.

“As we begin a new decade in the carwash industry, the SCWA 2010 Convention & EXPO focused on making the most from every opportunity we are given,” said Charlie Gates, past president of the association. “SCWA wants to be on the leading edge of what is happening in the carwash industry and to provide our members with the most relevant information and resources available.”

Among the convention highlights was the CEO Forum, which kicked off the expo with a presentation from Bruce Arnett Jr., COO of Mr. Clean Car Wash. In addition, former Louisiana governor Charles E. "Buddy" Roemer provided the show’s keynote address.

Doug Cookston of Cityview Car Wash & Oil Change in Forth Worth, Texas, and Jerry’s Express carwashes in Fort Worth and Arlington was named SCWA president for the 2010-2011 term.

“I am excited and proud to be a part of this dynamic organization,” Cookston said. “My goal this year is to build on the successes of the past as well as establish new goals that benefit our carwash members. As a member-driven organization, we will focus on new ideas to help our members achieve greater success in their day-to-day carwash operations.”

During the SCWA awards banquet, The Car Wash Barn in Killeen, Texas, was named top conveyor/exterior carwash and Lindale Car Care in Lindale, Texas, was named the top self-serve/automatic carwash. Lance Tyler of AutoSplash in Frisco, Texas, was given the SCWA’s 2010 Community Service Award.
