Wash Me! carwash in Kingman, Ariz., recently installed several photovoltaic solar panels on its roof that will generate up to 30 megawatts of power, according to a report by the Daily Miner. Owners Brent Kollars and Jason Lynch expect the carwash’s electric bill to drop from $3,000 per month to about $1,000.

The owners said they also want to install solar panels at their carwash in Bullhead City. The cost of the dual project is about $440,000, but credits from UniSource Energy Services and federal tax rebates will help cut the cost in half. Kollars and Lynch believe the will pay off the remaining balance in about 10 years, the article said.

The carwash also recently changed its carwash chemicals to Blendco’s SuperSat, a two-part detergent process that uses a powdered alkaline component and a liquid surfactant, keeping them separate until they are mixed automatically with water at the carwash.

The SuperSat chemicals are suitable for water reclaim systems, which Wash Me! also intends to install as part of its conservation efforts, the article said.
