Waves Car Wash in West Roxbury, Mass., will be among thousands of solar-powered homes, schools and businesses across North America on Oct. 2 participating in the 15th annual National Solar Tour. The event is hosted by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and is designed to showcase the benefits of solar power, including lower monthly energy bills, a reduction in carbon emissions and assistance through tax credits and cash incentives.

Waves Car Wash recently installed 7,000 square feet of solar panels on its roof. The company believes the 160 panels will supply 50,000 kilowatts of energy and provide approximately 20 percent of the facility’s electrical needs.

Representatives from Channel Sun Solar Power Systems will appear at Waves Car Wash to explain how solar energy works and answer questions. Channel Sun is the design-build firm that implemented the carwash’s solar panel system.

“In the wake of one of the largest man-made environmental disasters in U.S. history, it’s great to highlight some positive energy news. We’re excited to demonstrate how these solar power systems are a clean, job-creating energy option that provide positive cash flow, tax breaks, lower energy bills, and long-term cost control for businesses like Waves Car Wash,” said Patrick Hurley of Channel Sun.

“The ASES National Solar Tour is bringing families and businesses real-life examples of how their neighbors are harnessing free energy from the sun to generate electricity, warm and cool their homes, heat water and slash monthly utility bills,” said Adam Korngold, owner of Waves Car Wash. “We wanted to show our commitment to a cleaner environment and our support for the community. If we show how solar is working for us, that may stimulate more and more people to look at solar as a viable option for their home or business.”

More than 5,000 solar-powered sites are expected to participate.
